Welcome to Ulcinj, the southernmost resort in Montenegro! Ulcinj is famous for many things: famous for its long, flawless sandy beaches, which are not found anywhere else in Montenegro, for its old town - a well-preserved fortress surrounded by the sea, turbulent history and unique culture.
\nIt was 35 degrees outside, and we weren't so much interested in history and culture as we were in the famous Velika pla\u017ea (meaning "Big Beach" in Russian), which lies beyond Ulcinj toward Albania. We stocked up on water and swimsuits, piled into the car, and headed out to explore. \ud83d\ude42 The route from Kotor to Ulcinj is simple: \u2013 along the coast along Adriatic Sea, passing through Budva, Petrovac, and Bar, a distance of about 90 km. The signs are easy to follow, and we easily got there without GPS or maps. Velika pla\u017ea is located outside the city, so we passed it and continued following the signs toward the beach. We came across several signs to the right with the names of local beaches, and eventually we found ourselves at Mojito Beach, one of the well-equipped areas along the coast.<\/p>\n

After running and swimming, we got hungry and went to the Old Town of Ulcinj for lunch \ud83d\ude42 Finding a shade under the canopy of the restaurant Terra Promessa<\/em>, we decided that we could master something more serious than just drinks and, succumbing to a charming waiter, we were tempted by fresh fish (by the way, the waiter turned out to be the owner\u2019s son, and the restaurant was a family one, at the end of our meal we were introduced to the founder of the institution, from whom we received a local dessert). Looking ahead, I will say that the fish turned out excellent and was served with a rich side dish. As usual, I post photos for your attention and quote prices.<\/p>\n

Albanian dessert \u2013 kadaif \u2013, which the restaurant owner gave us as a gift. Essentially a "cake" of something similar to Chinese noodles with a layer of rich cream.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

While we waited for the fish, we went to explore the restaurant. It was fascinating, with seafood finds, nets, crab skeletons, and so on hung and arranged everywhere. Meanwhile, the wind knocked over our glass of wine. \ud83d\ude41 We were immediately moved to another table with a clean tablecloth, brought fresh wine, and... a shot of rakia each as a gift from the host for the inconvenience. The ladies were served a milder lemon rakia \u2013, which tasted amazing; besides the lemon, there was a hint of yolk. I've never had anything better in this high-alcohol range! We sat and enjoyed the sea view, a pleasant sea breeze, and excellent cuisine at the national restaurant in Ulcinj. Highly recommended! We didn't get a chance to explore the city itself in detail because it was too hot, so it looks like sightseeing will have to wait until autumn. \ud83d\ude42 In the meantime, I'll be testing out the beaches in Montenegro. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
