I was recently asked by a client about cost of living in Montenegro<\/strong>, about what expenses to prepare for when moving to Montenegro, and I thought that this question probably worries someone else. So, I will list the main expenses. Of course, everyone has their own standard of living and standards, so I will try to be as objective as possible.<\/p>\n

Question: How much does it cost to rent an apartment out of season and not for tourists?<\/strong>
\nAnswer: Housing varies. The typical average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment with a living room is 300 euros. Of course, prices vary widely depending on the quality of the apartment and the landlord's preferences. Some landlords want to receive six months' or a year's rent upfront, while others don't, and payments are made monthly. Sometimes, in Budva and elsewhere, rent increases are made \u2013 during the summer months, but this is all negotiated in advance (unfortunately, there are sometimes dishonest landlords who violate their obligations). This can be avoided by signing a lease agreement with the landlord.<\/p>\n

Question: What are the utility costs?<\/strong>
\nAnswer: On average, the internet costs around 25 euros per month, while utilities (\u2013) and electricity (\u2013) cost between 30 and 100 euros, depending on the season and your tolerance for cold or heat in the apartment (this mainly applies to using an air conditioner to cool or heat the apartment). In small private houses with 3-4 apartments, water is often not paid for (\u2013). The owner of the house has a well and uses it to supply the entire house with water. Otherwise, you'll have to spend between 10 and 30 euros per month on water (the amount of water and electricity used increases with the number of children in the house!). Mobile phone service in Montenegro is more expensive than in Russia (\u2013). On average, it costs us around 20 euros per month (\u2013), and we don't talk much (\u2013). I remember that in Russia, we didn't have to pay for this at all.<\/p>\n

Question: What are the prices for products in Montenegro?<\/strong>
\nAnswer: Grocery prices in stores are roughly the same as in Russia (excluding Moscow). Some things are cheaper, some more expensive. Of course, your monthly expenses depend on how many of you are in your household. If you have children, living expenses will increase. Prices for basic groceries:<\/p>\n

bread \u2013 1 euro
\nwine \u2013 from 1 euro
\npork tenderloin 5 EUR\/kg
\nkilogram of potatoes per season 20 cents
\nkilogram of oranges per season 50 cents
\nChicken fillet 5 euros per kilogram
\nChicken legs 3 euros per kilogram
\nHomemade cheese from 3.5 euros per kilogram
\nTrout fish from 4 euros per kilogram
\nEggs 1 euro for 10 pcs<\/p>\n

Question: What are the other expenses?<\/strong>
\nAnswer: You must pay taxes monthly if you are employed (\u2013) starting from 60 euros per month (for part-time work). Gasoline and diesel in Montenegro cost around 1.4 euros per liter. Serbian language lessons, if needed, cost from 5 euros (in a group) to 15 euros (with a private tutor). State kindergartens (\u2013) cost 40 euros per month. A cup of coffee in a cafe or restaurant on the coast costs 1-1.5 euros. An average pizza for two at a pizzeria costs around 6 euros.<\/p>\n
