I was recently asked by a client about cost of living in Montenegro, about what expenses to prepare for when moving to Montenegro, and I thought that this question probably worries someone else. So, I will list the main expenses. Of course, everyone has their own standard of living and standards, so I will try to be as objective as possible.

Question: How much does it cost to rent an apartment out of season and not for tourists?
Answer: Housing is different. The traditional average monthly rent for an apartment with one bedroom and living room is 300 euros. Of course, there are variations in cost in different directions, depending on the quality of the apartment and the appetites of the owners. Some owners want to get rent for half a year or a year in advance, some don't need it, and pay monthly. Sometimes in Budva, and not only the price of rent is increased for the summer months - but this is all agreed in advance (unfortunately, there are sometimes dishonest owners who violate obligations). This can be avoided by signing a lease agreement with the landlord.

Question: What are the utility costs?
Answer: On average, the cost of the Internet per month is about 25 euros, utility bills - electricity - from 30 to 100 euros, depending on the season and your tolerance for cold or heat in the apartment (basically it is about using the air conditioner to cool or heat the apartment) . In small private houses for 3-4 apartments, they often do not pay for water - the owner of the house has a well and with its help supplies the whole house with water. Otherwise, you will have to spend from 10 to 30 euros per month on water (the amount of water and electricity spent increases with the number of children in the house!). Mobile communication in Montenegro is more expensive than in Russia - it costs us about 20 euros per month on average - and we don’t talk much at all - I remember that in Russia we didn’t have to monitor this at all.

Question: What are the prices for products in Montenegro?
Answer: Prices in stores for groceries are about the same as in Russia (I do not take Moscow into account) - something is cheaper, something is more expensive. Of course, the amount of your monthly expenses depends on how many of you - i.e. if there are children, then accommodation becomes more expensive. Prices for basic foodstuffs:

bread - 1 euro
wine - from 1 euro
pork tenderloin 5 EUR/kg
kilogram of potatoes per season 20 cents
kilogram of oranges per season 50 cents
Chicken fillet 5 euros per kilogram
Chicken legs 3 euros per kilogram
Homemade cheese from 3.5 euros per kilogram
Trout fish from 4 euros per kilogram
Eggs 1 euro for 10 pcs

Question: What are the other expenses?
Answer: Monthly taxes must be paid if you are employed - from 60 euros per month (if you are employed on a "half rate"). Gasoline and diesel in Montenegro cost about 1.4 euros per liter. Serbian lessons, if necessary, cost from 5 euros (in a group) to 15 euros (with a private tutor). State kindergartens - 40 euros per month. A cup of coffee in a cafe or restaurant from 1-1.5 euros on the coast. An average pizza in a pizzeria for two is about 6 euros.

I look forward to your comments and questions - for sure, I forgot to mention a lot!
